Hello friends!

Today I wanted to talk a little bit about meditation and how it could help a lot of people feeling under stress or even for self-therapy. I personally started meditating because it not only helped me feel relaxed and in control of my body, but it also taught me a lot about myself as a person, without judgment.

A filing cabinet can fill up quickly when there are several files and folders involved. I don't know if you have seen this before but it can seem pretty crowded and messy. In fact, it can also seem a little overwhelming. Our brains are similar in a way where we are capable of compiling multiple thoughts and in return our "mind" cabinet is overwhelmed by thoughts. Sometimes we lose our sense of control and anxieties may rise. If you have experienced this feeling then, I'm sure you would also agree that having only one thought is more ideal, right?

Most people have heard of meditation but they aren't actually aware of what it really is or does. I have found a lot of controversies and misinformation but I assure it's benefits. Meditation is a practice where individuals use techniques to help train attention and awareness. A surreal feeling of mindfulness, really. I believe it is a gift to oneself that can help to create happiness and to better manage stress. Are you someone who deals with anxiety or stress? Meditation is focusing on your physical sensations; you learn to break free from numerous thoughts and only think about one thing at a time. Meditation can help you take control of your life.

Meditation is seen across many parts of the world and is also used by many famous people like singer Lady Gaga and famous basketball player, Kobe Bryant. With many different forms, the process can be unique to everyone.

For the purpose of this post, I have decided to focus on 3 types of meditation: Mindfulness Meditation, Spiritual Meditation, and Focused Meditation.

Mindfulness Meditation

The practice of Mindful Meditation focuses simply on becoming aware of what you're sensing and feeling in the moment. The process involves different types of breathing methods and other ways to relax the body and mind from stress. When we talk about what it really does for you, we focus more on attributes like learning to accept things for exactly how they are or, being impartial to our own experiences. This practice is a top personal choice because it is a psychological process that really helps to connect one with their inner-self. In my personal experience, I have learned a lot by practicing Mindful Meditation and I highly recommend to those who struggle to "see" themselves.

Spiritual Meditation

The second practice of meditation I will be talking about is Spiritual. Spiritual meditation is meant to be a joyful and peaceful process. The practice involves individuals connecting to a higher power (something greater), like the universe or anything more specific to the individual. It is an experience that takes you deep into who you are as a person. If you are looking for a meditation practice that helps with focus and concentration, promotes better sleep and regulates mood, among others, then this may be for you.

Focused Meditation

The final form of meditation I will be talking about is Focused. Focused Meditation focuses on an individual gaining new perspectives on stressful situations, as well as being able to focus more on the present. This method can be useful for so many reasons but more specifically, it works to help an individual focus their attention on an object, sound, or sensation. In other words, it aims to help the individual in feeling relaxed using a specific focal point instead of trying to "clear your mind".

Now that I have talked about 3 types of Meditation I wanted to quickly point out that there are SO many types and I would definitely suggest checking them out! I have always really loved learning and even though this is a basic rundown, you'll likely read more about this over time in my future blogs. I practice different forms of meditation daily and will be sharing these processes later on!

Until next time!
