No-Mess Painting with an 18 Month Old

The age between 0 to 36 months happen fast, and if you blink, you might miss it. So when it comes to new activities, we like to go all out. My daughter and I have been exploring colours and textures for over 15 months now and no-mess painting is definitely a favourite of mine. It requires very little and brings so much joy to both mom and child. Today we are going to have another painting session and I decided to share with everyone how we do this.


First, we need to make sure we have all of our items on hand and we need to prepare our paint table. We are going to start with a list of items needed to complete a No-Mess Paint session.


List of Items for No-Mess Painting

  1. Zip-Lock baggies (Large Size)

  2. Small

  3. Tape

  4. Acrylic paint or any non-toxic paint colours of choice

  5. Large cooking tray


Next, we set up our table. We like using a large size cooking sheet to help keep any mess inside and to also help the child understand the activity a little better (focusing less on the table and what's in the tray).




Now that we have everything set up, we are going to start choosing our colours. My daughter and I have been working closely on being able to make personal choices so this is a perfect opportunity to do that. Usually she will pick 3 colours each session.



Once your colours have been chosen, it's time to set it up for the child. We do this by gently opening the Zip-Lock and pouring
